Thequestforbalancedwisdomisanelusivething,muchlikegoingtowardadestinationtowhichoneneverarrives.Insteadofthismakingoneimpatient,Iencourageyoutoconsiderthatallnoblethingsaredifficult,costly,andtime-consuming.Furthermore,unliketheusualtripswetakeinlife,wisdom'spathoftendivertsusfromourconsciousintention;wefindourselvesinunknownanddisorientingplaces.Thesetwoaspectsofthepursuitofwisdomareperceivedintuitivelyasthetensionbetweenknowingthatthepathleadstogreaterconnectednessandincreaseyetatthesametimedeconstructionandlackofdefiniteness.Withoutthisuncomfortableness,inherentinitspursuit,wisdomcannotbemanifested,remainingdead,orperhapsinert.
Thepursuitofwisdomis,inpart,abattleoftheheartinwhichthepursuitofpleasureandlesseningofdiscomfort,pain,orobligationcontinuallypullusawayfromengagingitsunknownpole.TheScripture,"outoftheheartflowstheissuesoflife,"justtouchesthedepthsofsuchaconfrontation.Concretely,the"issueoflife"isbloodwithoutwhichtherecanbenofurtherlifeoronlyalifethatisstagnant.Iencourageyoutomakethepursuitofwisdomasprecioustoyouasyourownbloodandthebloodofothers.
